Erosion - geo

Water on the move, cutting

it's groove

through sand and rock and clay,

eight pounds a gallon. It’s a moving challenge

It’ll carry the dirt away.

Erosion . . . erosion ... erosion!

Weathering, when it gets cold,

weathering, in the hot sunshine

weathering, when it rains,

weathering, over time

Ice on the move, cutting it's groove

through sand and rock and clay,

thaw and freeze,

expand and squeeze,

it’ll carry that dirt away.

Erosion . . . erosion ... erosion!

Weathering, when the rock gets cold,

weathering, in the hot sunshine

weathering, rocks expand,

weathering, crack over time

Wind on the move,

cutting it's groove through sand and rock and clay,

breeze to gust, it will crumble the crust

and carry that dirt away.

Erosion . . . erosion ... erosion!

Geology Rocks

(kids sing italicized words)

Geology rocks you ever wonder

Geology rocks about this earthy floor

Geology rocks yea just what’s under

Geology rocks those feet of yours

Geology rocks If you are looking

Geology rocks and thinking about what you see

Geology rocks asking how what why

Geology rocks that’s geology

Geology rocks Geology rocks

go ahead and look around your back yard

I’m the detective

the rock detective

some rocks are soft and some are hard

I’m the detective

the rock detective

now take a close look at what you find

I’m the detective

the rock detective

so it’s a rock do you know what kind ?

I’m the detective

the rock detective

just why do geysers gush

and volcanoes blow

just how do rocks get crushed

when glaciers flow

why are there mountain chains

under the sea

why are there grassy plains

That’s geology

Chorus

The Rock Cycle

Well igneous is a fiery name, The rock cycle

metamorphic means something has changed, the rock cycle

When sediments harden into layers

then you get all three of the players

in the , the rock cycle

Magma moving up to the surface

will it blow from volcanoes

it cools into igneous rock

whether on the surface or down below

Chorus

rock on the surface get crumbled and tumbled

out in the weather day after day

it builds up in horizontal layers

it’s sedimentary rock when it hardens where it lays

Chorus

the crust on this planet buckles and folds

pushing rock way down below

the heat and the pressure make it metamorphic

rock changed by weight and hot magma flow

The Big Bang

Before our earth, before our sun

before our galaxy had begun

before the atoms made elements

there was one really big event

The Big Bang, from a point so small and dense

The Big Bang, one really big event

The Big Bang, so hot and bright at first

The Big Bang , cooled into our universe

The universe cooled, gases formed

they clumped together, galaxies were born

swirling around like our Milky Way

billions of stars making elements each day

CHORUS

Now out on the edge of the spinning Milky Way

an average sun formed in the average way

hyrdrogen gas and helium

burning brightly we call it our sun

CHORUS

Now one of the clumps spinning round our sun

started to cool and the cooling’s still not done

covered with water with a gassy atmosphere

a solid core, we all live here

CHORUS

Tectonic Plates

We live on the crust and it’s broken into plates

these plates are moving and there’s trouble that creates

volcanoes blow and the earth quakes

because of tectonic plates

moving tectonic plates

Plates move and they converge

plates move and they diverge

plates move and they sliiiiiiiiide

Side by side

When plates under oceans collide with the continents

they buckle up mountains and make a deep water trench

volcanoes steam that sulfuric stench

when plates collide slide and wrench

Plates move and they converge

plates move and they diverge

plates move and they sliiiiiiiiide

Side by side

What's Our World Made of

What’s our world made of ? ( mon )

is it just what we see right on the ground now

What’s our world made of ? ( mon )

is it solid rock all the way down now

What’s our world made of ? ( mon )

stuff from stars that burned before

What’s our world made of ? ( mon )

the crust and the mantle and the outer and inner core

Like an egg has it’s shell

the earth has it’s crust

that’ where you’ll find

each and every one of us

under the crust

the mantle’s moves around

this will make the earth quake

and knock us down
EARTHQUAKE

Chorus

the earth is slowly cooling

from what it was before

now there is a solid crust

and a liquid outer core

the inner core is solid

the mantle’s mushy rock

and when the mantle moves

we all can feel the shock
EARTHQUAKE

CHORUS

life leaves it’s layers

right on the ground

year after year

the layers get pushed down

the layers will buckle

crumble, fold and thrust

making rocks and minerals

and our earth’s crust,

Chorus

Sun Up, Sun Down

Chorus
I live on this world, it spins around,
it makes the sun come up
and the sun go down
sun up;
daytime, daytime
sun down;
nighttime, nighttime.

What covers the surface of our earth
and makes our planet blue ? ( WATER )
In the sky clouds drift by,
they’re made of this stuff too. ( WATER )
It starts to freeze at 32 degrees
and it makes the polar ice caps. ( WATER )
It’s within our own skin
as warm blood or tree sap. ( WATER )
Watch it flow, everywhere you go;
rivers in motion, lakes and oceans,
above and below.

Chorus

What does it mean
when you see green
on earth from outer space ? (PLANTS)
They use solar power
to make food and flowers
and fruit we love to taste. (PLANTS)
Great big trees and tiny algae
releasing oxygen. (PLANTS)
Water moves higher as leaves transpire
and take our bad breath in; (PLANTS)
watch them grow, everywhere you go,
from flower to seed, sprouts to trees,
above and below.

Chorus
